The client-psychotherapist relationship is protected by law and cannot be disclosed unless written consent is granted. There are exceptions to this protection that require reporting that include:

• Instances of suspected abuse, whether of a child, dependent adult or the elderly.
• Clients threatening serious bodily harm to another individual.
• Client threatening harm to themselves who are not cooperative in ensuring their own safety.
